Very bad day 😭

Jun 02, 2016 8:54 PM

Today has not been a good day. One week post-op and following my shower I lost all my strength, barely able to dress myself. I was also weak& shaky, and felt like I might pass out. I grabbed a Gatorade and yogurt and sat down for over 2 hours, doing absolutely nothing. I felt a little better so I heated my soup for lunch. Within 30 minutes my abdomen swelled up with gas. The pain was like being stabbed front to back, through my upper left chest down through my intestines. I was hurting so badly I was literally bawling like a baby, while I rubbed my abdomen & chest, paced the floors, and ate 4 Gas-X strips. After about another hour the grass began to pass and the pain learned in my left chest. Then I turned nauseated and stayed so for a long time. Eventually i braved eating a cream soup for supper. And now 4+ hours later the abdominal gas bloat has returned. I'm just glad it's not as severe. Not sure I want to eat soup tomorrow. I hope all of you are having better days! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Sorry you are so miserable.

I hope you feel better soon. Have you ever checked if you have lactose intolerance? That's what happens to me when I consume lactose (yoghurt, cream).

Dear FlappysLady,

I am sorry it has turned out this way. I wonder if you have some food sensitivities that have developed?

Do you fart or have you pooped since surgery?

I am having problems with this due to my scope/surgery on Tuesday, plus being chronically constipated and on Narcotics around the clock for the past 7 months. I have become more sensitive to foods. Especially bread, milk and cheese. My stomach blows up and is hard after consuming these, with lots of pain. I am currently completely dependent on laxatives to poop, which doesn't help the pain.

I hope your surgery went well. Have you talked to your doctor about this problem? Maybe being on clear fluids for a short while longer could help.i realize it is hard to be in pain, scared about the pain coming back is hard to deal with and then comes the hunger and I would eat anything and lots of it.

Because of the way they did my surgery through scope, they do use some sort of air that is forced in to get a better image of the area being worked on. This is a different gas that I am now talking about. They did say that I may feel pain at my diaphragm and left shoulder. I did end up getting this, it was nasty. But now gone.

FlappysLady I hope some relief comes your way soon. Take care. Beets.

Flappsy, I am so sorry that yesterday was such a nightmare. I wish that you didn't have to suffer with that kind of pain and gas after you went through all that surgery to correct problems you had in your esphogus. Wondering if maybe the hot soup aggrevated the area of surgery? Just a guess, I don't really know. I only pray that today is a much better day for you. Sending you much love, gentle {{{Hugs}}} and prayers that you have a better day my dear friend. 💕🙏🏻🌻😊

Thank you all for caring thoughts and prayers! Today has been better by far, although every time I eat I get gas bloat, just not as severe. Thank God! Who would have thought gas in the shoulder region could be so painful? I understand why people think they're having a heart attack! I don't know if I'm lactose intolerant or not, never been tested. The only dairy product I can for sure say is an issue would be ice cream. But it usually causes constipation. I am passing the gas, both ends. My hubby said he doesn't understand why I'm belching so much when the doc said I probably wouldn't be able to. I'm just glad I'm getting rid of the gas.

I'm surviving off Atkins protein shakes, Dannon Light & Fit Yogurts, Broth & Creme Soups, Jello, Pudding (not much of it), Carb Smart Ice Cream (very minimal), Popsicles, & occasionally 4 oz berry smoothies. Then on Wednesday I started eating creamed veggies; sweet potato soup, split pea soup, creamed white potatoes, scrambled eggs. These are the things doc said I could eat. It was after I are the sweet potatoes yesterday that all the pain started. I've avoided them like the plague today! I attempted to make some egg drop soup, and even though it looked awful I ate it anyway. I've had minimal gas bloat today.

But I think something else is going on with my left shoulder region, from the chest to the back, besides has pain. When I came home the night of surgery it was really hurting. We thought it was just gas because the nurse & doc warned us I might feel it there (left upper chest). But as the week has gone by I've noticed the pain is always there whether I'm bloated with gas or not. The pain worsens with gas present, severly, but it also worsens with any cough, sneeze, deep breath etc. It's like when I wake it's a low level of pain, but the more I'm up doing for myself (shower, hair, food prep, etc) the more it hurts. It got so bad after my shower this morning that I gave in and took a dose of Hydrocodone, just to see if it would help. It did, amazingly! For 2-3 hours I had very little pain. It's like the pain travels along the collarbone, outward to the shoulder joint, along the top of the scapula, and up my neck, then in reverse. I told my hubby I think I was moved wrong being moved from the surgery table to my bed when the surgery was over. My other shoulder region has zero pain (right side). The only other thing I can think of is that it's connected to the retrolisthesis disc in my neck. I see the surgeon next Thursday for follow up. I took a second dose of Hydrocodone this afternoon, and I'm going to take it at bedtime. If it had not decreased the shoulder region pain I'd probably still think it's gas related pain.

And the ever present itching & rash from the surgical prep of Betadine is not clearing up. I have tiny raised red spots around every skin pore where the orange Betadine wash was used. Nothing's helping even though I've washed the areas with soap, Aveeno wash, and used benadryl tablets & gel. I had to file my nails down to nothing to keep from having scratch marks all over.

If appreciate your thoughts on the shoulder pain, and any suggestions to help stop this rash itching. Thanks! Hugs & prayers everyone has a good weekend!! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Flappy, I was told to use either prescription Flonase for allergic reactions thanks to tapes or original flavor milk of magnesia. Spread a thin layer and allow to dry. It may be something to consult your doctor about.

I'll try to remember that for my neck surgery. Thanks everyone!
