Vitamin D and Iron

Dec 04, 2015 1:10 PM

Just got back from the doctors. Turns out my recent blood test shows a low Vitamin D and Iron level. I've been getting a lot of cold fingers or overcome with severe heat for several hours in parts of the body, sometimes getting both within a half hour or so and it can go up and down like that all day. Also I've been mentally and emotionally drained and often I've had swelling in my neck, throat glands, shoulders and red eyes despite having ruled out reaction to any medications. The doctor said low Vitamin D level can make all of this happen - including affect your mood chemicals - when combined with low iron and a condition like Fibromyalgia. It's apparently difficult to say why my levels have dipped at this point; not so helpful. However I've been given supplements for both (the iron is in liquid form for better absorption into the system). So if anyone is feeling this way and hasn't tested their levels it may be worth checking out! 💜

Hello I just joined the group. I have the same thing plus vitamin B12 deficiency. I now rake B12 shots every 2 wks, vitiams D, liquid iron as well as calcium zinc magnisum supplement. Since starting this my severe heat and then fridged cold spells have started to decrease. When this started they thought it was my thyroid and menopause, which that was also right. After starting hormone replacement therapy and synthryoid it was still happening. Then they tested for vitamin deficiency which came up very low. The doctor I see has a lot of Fibromyalgia patients and said he sees this alot. I still have flares and some fatigue but fatigue is not any thing like it was. Hope this helps others and hope to get to know others in the groups.

Hi MiMi967, thanks for your response. It's really useful to hear how it positively affected you. I'll keen to see how it'll work out for me.

Valiantina, II have this also, and like Mimi967. BTW, welcome! I've been very tired and having cold and hear intolerance. Two docs suspect Raynaud's, and I was dx with Sjogrens & hypothyroidism this year. Wearing crafter's gloves helps my hands and type socks help keep my feet warm. I'm too have more labs this week, so I'm interested to see if vitamin changes have helped. 🙏🌼
