I love Volterian Gel, it does help to lower pain level. Be careful not to use more than prescribed, as now doc's say it can effects organs.

I did even know we had a tube of it in the house. My wife used it on her shoulder last night and said it did nothing for her pain. I am not sure what is the cause of her pain, its more than just muscle pain and she received no relief what so ever.

I've used voltaren gel for over three years, for osteoarthritis in my spine, hands & knees, and bursitis in my shoulders & hips. It works as well, if not better than any OTC ointment (less the smell). But it is not as strong as any narcotic pain pills, which I am allergic to most available. Voltaren gel is temporary and short duration relief. You might consider nerve blocks if they won't give you the pills. I overheard a pharmacy telling someone that they're all under news guidelines to reduce narcotic & nonnarcotic pain pill use, due to abuse or overdependence on them, so they have to limit the amount prescribed each time. Due to my allergies to most meds I have had the best results with nerve blocks, but I'm paying for it with side effects in my vision, cognition, & bone mass loss. Do your research on any meds via www.drugs.com. Good luck & watch for withdrawal symptoms due to the reduction. Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms nearly hospitalized me!

They've restricted the amount of narcotics they've been dispensing for a while here in Ontario. You can only get 30 days worth at a time and twice a year you are required to provide your doctor a urine for analysis which I first thought was for searching for illegal drug use but later found out its to find out if you are taking what has been prescribed to make sure you are not selling them. I don't mind getting only 30 days worth at a time but what I do hate is the constant accusations that I am a drug addict. And anyone who takes narcotics at high doses for any lengthy period will become dependent on them but there is a difference between dependency and addiction. Addiction is a mental problem in combination with dependency. dependency is normal and you are able to wean yourself from the drug slowly. Addicts can't do that.

i have been on voltaren gel 1% and my doctor switched me to diclofenac sodium pill form 50 mg twice daily. the gel works wonderful. but the pill is better. the gel is good for moderate pain but in my opinion the pill works better for chronic pain.

So there are "voltaren" pills? I asked a while back but nobody had heard of them while the gel was well known. My parents live in Switzerland and they have the pills there. My dad also says the pills work really well. I wonder if we can get them in the USA? Unbearable - where do you live?

Dec 11, 2014 8:28 PM

Ca Campbell I live in califorinia and I get drugged Tested once a month if I don't have the drug that I received from that doc I don't get any pills it's to keep the doctor from just hand them to me so I can sell them to someone else not that I would do that cause if you don't have the time don't do the crime

Dec 13, 2014 6:20 PM

Unbearable, are you taking diclofenac pills for fibromyalgia pain? Its an Rx I take it?
I would love to find something to help with pain. Its been awful lately, can't even wipe my kitchen counters down. It's awfully depressing...

Dec 13, 2014 9:38 PM

Diclofenac is an anti-inflammatory so it won't help for most fibromyalgia pain
