Wanting a pet

Aug 21, 2015 7:06 PM

My family is trying to adopt a dog, found one that we feel in love with, but she got adopted yesterday while we tried to deal with migraines =( It's pretty ironic.

Aug 21, 2015 7:17 PM

Awww keep looking!! You'll find the perfect one!

Aug 21, 2015 7:38 PM

There are so many that need good homes. There must be another special one waiting for you.

Aug 21, 2015 9:20 PM

Ferretbandit, I've always let the dog choose me and it's worked out perfect every time. After our last dog died we went searching at least every other weekend. It took nearly a year before we came upon our new dog. We were leaving the shelter as a woman was coming in to surrender one too many pet. I squatted down and he came straight to me. I picked him up and he was calm the whole time I held him. Literally the whole time we'd been looking, all other dogs my hubby liked would turn away from me or not come near at all. Since I'm the one home with it, the dog had to like me. Well our dog likes everyone, until he thinks I'm in trouble. He stays right by my side. When it's the right dog it will all fall in place. 🙏🌼

It took me a yr and a half to find my second dog. Perfect to me and all my other pets found me. Cat stuck in a dewberry bush, shelter pup, dog on the side of the road and even a Tadpole in a stream!

My great aunt taught me that when you think you've found the dog to try and hold it like a baby. If you can it'll be a good dog. :)

Aug 21, 2015 9:52 PM

The right one will come along, but sometimes you have to wait for it to find you. I've actually said to a lot of people that "good things come in furry packages."

Aug 21, 2015 9:56 PM

My dog and pot belly pig are my"furry kids"

Aug 22, 2015 7:09 AM

Pets help. Without my princess I wouldn't be able to make it

Aug 22, 2015 8:31 AM

Oh Chocolat... I absolutely LOVE pot bellied pigs!! That's so cool that you have one. I'll have one some day.😇

Aug 22, 2015 9:14 AM

Great things come in furry little packages!! I have 3. Ive always had german shepherds but when I got sick it was hard for me to handle them. After my last shepherd passed away I decided to try a little guy .. Aryon and fell in love! Then i got Max (bulldog pug mix) omg hes so smart!! He's my husbands. He has a lot of energy lol and Nuno who is a yorkshire terrier... he is mommies baby!!!! Hes so fun and lovable and he always seems to know exactly when i need lovable. Hes my soul pup. Lol

I call them my replacement boys. I have 3 grown boys and thiers a lot i miss about them being young. The pups really filled some of that in.

You'll find your soul pup when the time is right!! Im excited for you!

Alwayzinpain, sophia is 3 and she's like Toddler. Into evening, but so smart! She plays a toddler size piano, can sit, stay, come and dance in circles. Oh and she gives kisses!

Aug 22, 2015 9:47 AM

Into everything, not evening

Aug 22, 2015 10:31 AM

That is awesome!! I have a ferret named Mischief and boy does her name fit her!! She's into everything. When I first got her, she escaped her cage 4 times before I figured out how the hell she got out!! She is 18 months old and they live anywhere from 8-12 years. Hoping it's the longer. She is a sweetie and always licks my face when I hold her. I would love to see your pig and give it a big piggy kiss right on that adorable nose!!!

Aug 22, 2015 2:26 PM

Awe, I w heard ferrets are really affectionate, smart and entertaining!!

Aug 23, 2015 6:11 AM

I love ferrets, had them when I lived withmy mom. My dad thinks they're too smelly. I'm excited that my stepmom is gone. I should be able to bound with our dog this time. She wouldn't let Misty info the house =( An indoor dog is what I want, not an excuse for someone to lock me out of the house.

Aug 23, 2015 6:21 AM

Best thing i did was to get a dog. They say a dog (or pet of your choice) is the best antidepressant & in my opinion it is true! I don't suffer with depression but on those bad days my dog puts the biggest smile on my face. There is a little fur baby out there waiting for you. Good luck :)

I agree with flappy, you will know when it is right and when it is it is a very special bond. We got our lab from a shelter, he was on hold for someone else and he literally climbed in our laps. It worked out the other people changed their mind. Our second is a small little tibby. I just loved him but when the shelter heard we had another dog they told us he didn't get along with other dogs. We took him in a fenced area where he ignored us and barked at other dogs. I felt so heartbroken because i loved him. My husband ran home and got our lab. When we put him in the same pen the little one barked but after a few minutes he didn't care. The lady at the shelter could not believe it and said well i guess it was meant to be. Don't rush it or you might not end up with the dog that is suppose to be yours. It seems like a true match works no matter what.

I really think a pet would be a good idea as my condition makes me very upset and down and I feel like I don't do anything...I know I can't do anything because of of the way I am, but I just think having a pet I need to take care of would lift my spirits, what do people think? I already have 2 cats but they are independent and so only need feeding and they don't cuddle anymore always out...I feel like a dog maybe would be good as it would get me out of the house more aswell...but I don't think my parents are convinced what do people think? I need something to love and love me back! Aha

Nothing calms me down like a long cuddle session with my kitties. When they are in the mood that is.

Aug 27, 2015 9:33 PM

I'm allergic to cats, but it depends on the cat. I've met one who cuddled all the time, slept with her mom, and would go on walks. She is the only cat I've ever enjoyed being around. I'm really wanting a dog but we need to finish cleaning or house.

Aug 29, 2015 2:27 PM

Sphinx and Rex are two very sweet hypoallergenic kitties. They are highly intelligent and cuddly. I have regular cats now I am also allergic to cats but I take two claritin a day to benefit from their love. Dogs are way more work. I could not take care of a dog in this pain. Just my opinion. 😎

We have a leopard toistoise ,who called India and she has free run of our down stairs ,and she comes when I call her , she a great pet who going to live a long time , ( when she fulling grown she be as big as a dustbin lid ,now she 8kgs and this size of a large dinner late ,)and she love cuddles ,

Aug 30, 2015 4:53 PM

My cat used to cuddle as well but over the past year I have had multiple surgeries and he doesn't come by me to cuddle. At first I was offended but my son has pointed out that he knows I'm in pain so he avoids me. I'm trying new toys to engage him in play. Maybe you could try that with your cats rather than getting a dog and having the possibility that your cats don't accept it in your home. The last thing you need is kitty drama. When cats get mad they really let you know. Once they start urunating outside the box it's a hard habit to fix. Just a thought Claire. Best wishes. I hope your kitty's come around we all deserve cuddles from our babies.

Pets do wonders for pain! I have 3 bearded dragons & a yellow Nigerian Uromastyx (spinytail lizard). Watching them run around acting silly helps me a lot. It actually helps, to a degree, take my mind off the pain. They also sit on my chest & shoulders just to be petted or to listen to Mommy when the pain's so bad I can hardly stand it. Its like they know & understand, something that most people I know can't relate to because they don't experience pain for 24/7 like I do. I've raised beardies for 20 years & now can't do it any more but just having these few as pets has done me a world of good. Thank you God for all of your little creatures, not just the fuzzy ones! Good luck in finding your perfect dog!

Aug 31, 2015 12:48 AM

Claire, have you considered something like a ferret? My sis and I use to have 2 named Skinny and Fatty (they're both tiny compared to normal though) and it was nice to be able to pick them up and they'd just fall asleep and cuddle. =) Be aware the silver beds are known to bite more (my sis got a bite, so we adopted Skinny and Fatty)
I don't know about cats much, we seem to have a mutual allergy. Mine are already pretty bad, with my nose constantly plugged. I walk into a room with a cat, and start sneezing and hacking. They do the same lol.
We found a couple dogs we're interested in, just need to meet them first. I'm hopeful.

Aug 31, 2015 5:13 AM

We had a ferret called asbo ,sadly he died a few years ago now ,now we got India ,

Aug 31, 2015 7:30 AM

I thought about a small animals like degus and indoor rabbits cos I'm not a feret person really...I want a social animal basically to lift my spirits and help make me more active that's why I thought of a dog, but I'm not sure I'm hopeful I will figure it out though :)

Aug 31, 2015 11:13 AM

I love my ferret and she sure is entertaining. She's not really a cuddler as she still is energetic being a baby. She used to bite when I first got her. After some training and discipline, she doesn't any more. I also have had lizards (bearded dragons, leopard geckos, uromastics, blue tongue skinks and also several snakes, mostly ball pythons. The one I have now is albino and about 5' long) my Mom is horrified of snakes so it stays at my friend's house. I've also had horses but can't muck stalls any more but would love to have another. It's proven that animals lower your heart rate and blood pressure and can be a great distraction from pain. I hope you find a pet that makes you really happy and shares love with you and gives you the cuddles you need when. You're hurting.🌻🙏🏻

Sep 03, 2015 6:17 PM

I think we found a good match today. We went to a dog park to meet a border-collie/lab/pit mix. She was adorable and friendly and she'll need some training, but I'm up for that. =) My sis really wants a small (like chihuahua) mix, so she might not be that happy.
Not sure how this'll go, but I'm hopeful.

Sep 05, 2015 9:43 AM

Ferretbandit I hope you realize that border collies are very high energy dogs as are labs. I don't want to put a crimp in your hopes but make sure that you and/or your family is up for that. When you're not feeling well a hyper dog is not what you want to deal with. I hope you find the match you're looking for and soon. Good luck and I'll be thinking good thoughts that you have success!! 💕

Sep 05, 2015 4:18 PM

Yeah, it's true that she'll have a lot of energy. At least for now, I actually want a lot of energy. Between my roommate, dad and I , we should be fine. I've been walking a lot anyway.

We just added a chihuahua puppy to our menagerie. He is a one pound demolition crew. So cute but boy does he wear me out!
