Weird smelling urine?

Apr 12, 2015 5:44 PM

My pee has smelled strange for a long time. Plus I have awful back pain, which my rheumatologist doesn't seem to think is because of my disorders. Though my back was the first thing to hurt, before anything. She thinks it is because of how I walk due to knee pain, but my back hurt for months before my knee pain. What do I do?

Sounds to me like you need to go and see a Urologist. If your urine is smelly and you are having back pain, you may have a bladder or Urinary tract infection. They will do a urine test and check for inflammation cells and for any pus or other signs of infection. I don't think this is anything that you should mess with. If there is an infection, it can go systematic and then you'd really be in trouble. Best of luck and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Bio1457, you definitely need to see a urologist or at least your primary care doc. If I'm remembering if I'm my biology A&P, abnormal smells denote possible major issues, but at least an infection. Get it seen to asap. Your rheumatologist won't really address it because its not in their field of expertise. Praying it will be a very minor issue caught before anything major! 🙏🌼

Yep, echoing the words of others. You need to get that checked.

Thanks everyone. I go to college and live on campus without a car, so I'm going to the healthcare center tomorrow! I was just worried that my problems weren't valid. I've had UTIs and bladder infections before, and they didn't work like this. So I thought maybe I was going insane. But the smell has recently become worse, and so has the back pain. When I say that my urine smells terrible, the first thing anyone asks is "like yeast? A yeast infection?". No. I do not have a yeast infection. Haha.

Thank you everyone, apparently I have a huge UTI!
I didn't think I could have one without pain and frequent urination!

Bio, glad you got it nailed... My middle daughter had one when she was about 5 that came on in the middle of the night, by about 9 am her fever spiked over 105, she went limp, eyes glossy and skin pale by the time i got her to the doc ( an hour drive, which I did in 30 minutes) her kidneys were trying to shut down... Crazy how fast it happened. She ended up 2 weeks later with Steven johnsons syndrome from a sulfa reaction which was even more scarey. But she had an angel on her shoulder And now just is severly allergic to sulfa. and Needless to say I hate Infections like that! I thought I had a bad case of the flu a year ago and threw up for that hour ride only to find out it was a UTI... Watch that stuff it can be dangerous at times.

I'm glad you caught it before it got real bad.

Bio, look up dehydration. Severe body pains and foul smelling urine are a definite sign. I ended up in the ER 5 different years because I couldn't tell the difference between hunger pains or thirsting pains. I gained weight from the food but never list anything because I wasn't flushing excess out. That and I was sick all the time. 😣

Sounds like you have a urinary tract infection. I get them frequently due to neurogenic bladder and having to self catheterize myself. See your general practitioner right away to get a urine culture and scrip for antibiotics. Drink tons of water in the meantime. You don't want the infection to spread to your kidneys. Azo standard urinary pain relief tablets you can get over the counter may help with the burning. Good luck!

Bio, I am so happy that you got to the doctor and got the infection diagnosed before it got out of hand and infected your bladder. I have had bladder infections and when you say it hurts.... Holy Crap... That's an understatement. I could deal with almost all my other pain but that was rough. Glad your on your way to recovery. Feel good.
