What to do when your SO feels helpless that they cant help?

My fiance loves to help (or, in his words, fix things) but when I'm in pain and nothing helps (not even meds) I don't know how to convey to him that it's okay that he can't make it all better. I try to vocalize it but it's almost like he can't hear me over how helpless he feels.

Mine does too sometimes. I keep him busy and ask him for cups of tea, help with dinner, cleaning bits and bobs etc. Doesn't make you feel any better, but he's occupied and thinks he's helping.

I'm really sorry, it's probably my foggy brain but SO?

Significant other. :) And I second scrossy, he gets so frustrated with not being able to help that I'll sometimes make something up because then at least I don't feel guilty and he doesn't feel so helpless.

Thank you Scrossy for sharing.

Mine shuts down when he feels helpless, I wonder if i kept him busy if it would be better for him

I agree with everyone else. I try to keep mine busy with tasks to help me, no matter how small or insignificant. It helps to feel that contribution.
