What to do with fibromyalgia ????????!

Feb 21, 2018 11:46 AM

Ok so I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and my rheumatologist wanted me to start taking ibuprofen to help with the pain and see if that helps for a few days. So far if anything it just knocks edge off I’m still having a lot of symptoms. So should I go to my family doctor and talk to her possibly about trying a medication for fibro or just roll with it. And what medications work for anyone else with fibromyalgia??

I don't have Fibromyalgia, but my mother does. Drugs that are commonly used to treat Fibromyalgia are Lyrica (pregabalin), Cymbalta (duloxetine), Gabapentin (neurontin), Naproxen, and Elavil (amitryptiline). My mother has tried all of them, but Naproxen is the only one she continues to take and seems to be the most effective. Gabapentin and Lyrica were only effective for a year before they stopped working.

I have taken Lyrica for several years. It helps tremendously.

I'm on cymbalta. I also take magnesium which helps with the pain. I have cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxer) for the nights when the pain keeps me from sleeping. I'm also on DHEA supplements, as my levels were very low, and my rheumatologist says there is a connection between DHEA levels and fibro.

ive taken gabapentin 1,200 mg but it put me in rage mode. i was not me. i had no patience an was jus mean. it helped my pain for tha most part, as long as i didnt over due a activity. ive cut down to 600 mg’s before bed. an use meloxicam during the day. also i take amatripalyine before bed also. if not for amatripaline i wouldnt sleep. to much pain at bed time. i used lyrica years ago when first diagnosed.. but it caused me to suffer with suicidal thoughts. i felt good an was able to jump straight outta bed in the mornin. but was not worth the mental disadvantage. so my dr took me off of it. now i been diagnosed again. but it has gotten far more worse. an aint easing up. its gonna be a trial an error situation till ya find what works best for you all the way around. much frustration but keep a positive attitude👌

I’m so grateful to have found this support because although family can be supportive they can’t fully understand like someone else who has to go through the same pain
