I just posted this on my Facebook page:
Each day since my accident has been a little worse than the day before.
It doesn't take much to throw a Fibromyalgia Warrior into a flair. But this.. This has completely undone any gains I have made in the past several years.
I may say I'm fine when people ask but the reality is - I'm not.
I don't want sympathy though - I want you to try to understand what those who live with chronic pain go through.
If someone you know lives with this please understand if they have to change plans at the last moment - we never know from day to day how we will feel. Trust me, we would much rather spend the time with friends than with the limitations pain puts on us.
If we say we are fine - usually it's because that's easier than trying to explain why we aren't fine.
Please don't tell us you understand our pain because you once had a sprained ankle. The two aren't comparable but we are so thankful you don't have a way to really compare. We would not wish our pain on anyone.
Please don't try to sell us the miracle cure. Trust me - most of us have spent thousands in a desperate attempt of gaining that miracle.
If we say no or that we can't commit to something, please understand it's not necessarily that we don't want to do whatever you have asked of us but it's because healthwise we either can't possibly do it or we know that if we did do it - it would throw us into a flair.
We know that unless you live with chronic pain you can't truly understand what we go through. What we want is for you to try to understand that we are living with chronic pain and we are doing the best we can with this huge curve ball life has thrown us. Compassion goes a long way.
If you are a caregiver to someone who lives with Chronic Pain we want you to know how very thankful we are for you. We know your "job" is not an easy one and we appreciate your strength, love and compassion. You are our unsung hero's. Never doubt that.
Who are we? We are the voice of the millions in the US alone who struggle with Chronic Pain. We are the voice of those who want to educate others on what life with Chronic Pain entails.
We are ....
A Fibromyalgia Warrior
