What we want others to know:

Sep 27, 2016 10:25 AM

I just posted this on my Facebook page:

Each day since my accident has been a little worse than the day before.

It doesn't take much to throw a Fibromyalgia Warrior into a flair. But this.. This has completely undone any gains I have made in the past several years.

I may say I'm fine when people ask but the reality is - I'm not.

I don't want sympathy though - I want you to try to understand what those who live with chronic pain go through.

-~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If someone you know lives with this please understand if they have to change plans at the last moment - we never know from day to day how we will feel. Trust me, we would much rather spend the time with friends than with the limitations pain puts on us.

If we say we are fine - usually it's because that's easier than trying to explain why we aren't fine.

Please don't tell us you understand our pain because you once had a sprained ankle. The two aren't comparable but we are so thankful you don't have a way to really compare. We would not wish our pain on anyone.

Please don't try to sell us the miracle cure. Trust me - most of us have spent thousands in a desperate attempt of gaining that miracle.

If we say no or that we can't commit to something, please understand it's not necessarily that we don't want to do whatever you have asked of us but it's because healthwise we either can't possibly do it or we know that if we did do it - it would throw us into a flair.

We know that unless you live with chronic pain you can't truly understand what we go through. What we want is for you to try to understand that we are living with chronic pain and we are doing the best we can with this huge curve ball life has thrown us. Compassion goes a long way.

If you are a caregiver to someone who lives with Chronic Pain we want you to know how very thankful we are for you. We know your "job" is not an easy one and we appreciate your strength, love and compassion. You are our unsung hero's. Never doubt that.

Who are we? We are the voice of the millions in the US alone who struggle with Chronic Pain. We are the voice of those who want to educate others on what life with Chronic Pain entails.

We are ....

Perfect LMB

Dec 31, 2016 1:34 AM

That pretty much covers it! We've all tried for years to get that point across, hope you don't mind if I pass this along to a few members of my family

Dec 31, 2016 1:51 AM

LMB that's about right for me atm!! Is it OK to screen shot it and put it on my face book?
Mimikay I wish there was a way I could copy what you wrote to put it on my Facebook (with you permission and credited to you) page as there's lots of people I know who don't understand and think I'm a hypochondriac (including some family members) and that I'm putting it on! 😳

Sezzy
I know I have it posted on my FB somewhere. :) will see if I can find it for you. Am not at home - otherwise I would just pull it up on my computer.

Dec 31, 2016 4:54 PM

Screenshot and post away. Hope it helps others understand better what we are all dealing with.

Dec 31, 2016 5:07 PM

Thank you for this! The one thing I ask of people is, "the willingness to understand". For chronically ill and those with invisible illnesses like myself, many of you and sooo many others out there, a little understanding is all we want. You don't have to know what we're going through, you don't have to relate, just maybe read an article or truly listen when we actually open up and share what we're going through. To really be heard, it's a true gift. My thoughts are with all of you, I hope this new years brings less bad days and more good. That the struggles pass sooner and the lows not hit so low as often. For less flares and more smiles. Happy New Year!!!
PS: we are stronger than others because we don't battle just the world, we battle ourselves and our bodies. To do so and still wake up every morning, it seems like a curse, but what beauty there is to be seen.

If anyone wants a copy of the article I wrote here let me know. Send me a private message with your e-mail address on it and I will.gladly e-mail it to you.

Thank you Mimikay I've shared it now and will probably post it a few times on my Facebook as I know there are a lot of people who don't understand especially people like my dad who in one breath says he understands but when I hit that "brick wall" and can't even seem to take one more step he tells me I have to push thro it and stop being lazy!!!! 😨😴😑

Mo29 you are soo very right, there are some people who try to understand as best they can but those are very hard to find. I've found tho more often than not that people don't want to try to understand and say to push thro the barriers that hold us in place 😒

That sums it up perfectly. I am showing this to all my family and friends. Thankyou πŸ€—πŸŒΌ so very very much

Jan 29, 2017 3:56 PM

Well AlwayZ, mine too. And my hubby's favorite is Charlie Brown. Eeyore & Charlie Brown together...Ho hum! Lol

Jan 29, 2017 4:29 PM

LMAO Flappsy. That's too funny!! Eeyore has been a fave since I was a little girl. I always loved how his monitone voice would say things like when he lost his tail or he couldn't find a thistle..

Feb 25, 2017 3:47 PM

A beautiful poem Flappsy. I might just borrow it, write it down and put it somewhere all my friends and family can see and read πŸ€—πŸŒΌ

Feb 25, 2017 4:09 PM

I found it on Pinterest. And my daughter told me instead of doing screen shots, just select the 3 dots or dashes, then choose save or download image. Much easier than screenshots and editing. Lol

Feb 25, 2017 10:43 PM

Sezzy for me . I can't find anyone who understands my illness so instead of telling me to push thro it . They just walk out of my life . πŸ˜” which makes me feel worse

Mar 17, 2017 2:50 PM

Alijoy... I am Melanie. Am not at home but I can send a copy of it to your e-mail address. I believe I have that. :)

Mar 17, 2017 3:08 PM

Yay!!!! Oh thank you😊

Westrengirl those people who don't understand and walk out of your life didn't belong there in the first place. The best thing to do is to find things that make you happy and do those and people who are meant to be there will come maybe not today or tomorrow but they will.
You have your lovely family unit....Your husband, your child and now that things are going better with your mother-in-law her too.
Is there a mental health charity near you? They may be able to help you.....I've just started using one near me. The mental health charity in the UK is called mind and they have a wide range of activities and support groups to help everyone. Some of the activities I've tried and not able to do again due to my anxiety with there being lots of people but they offer other services that are suited to me.
It's worth a look and if you do, you have nothing to lose in trying it, if you don't like it you don't have to go back xx
