When 400mg of Ibuprofen don't work anymore?

Dec 05, 2016 8:53 PM

What does it mean to you when 400mg of Ibuprofen doesn't work anymore for joint pain?
I'm getting worse? Or try another brand. Have been using Walgreens Dye-Free one.

I take 800mg when is bad. 600mg when it's not as bad. 800mg used to be within normal recommendations. It was lowered to 600mg not too long ago. I use generic from King Soopers.

I have a 600mg prescription. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about getting a higher prescription. It might not be ur getting worse u might have just developed a tolerance to it. I'd try something a little stronger if your doctor agrees.

Be careful with Ibuprofen it can mess up your kidneys.
Have you been tested for anything like lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Are you talking to the person who posted or me Gibber???

If so I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Fybromyalgia, Thyroid Disease, Liver disease, Kidney issues, Heart issues, Stoke 11/15, Multiple of lung issues and on oxygen and a few more issues..... ect....

GeorgeAnna did the doctor prescribe you ibuprofen? That can make your kidney issues worse not to mention damage your liver. Go back to your doctor and ask then is it wise to be on ibuprofen with your issues especially if it's not working.
Also ask them if there's something else you could have instead?

Evegali you need to go back to your doctor to tell them that the ibuprofen isn't working anymore, you've probably built up a resistance to them and may need to go on to something else as going to a different brand isn't going to make a difference, the active ingredient is the same.
The cold weather is not a friend to pain sufferers. Most people who suffer from chronic pain of one form or another find the cold makes the pain worse.
And as Gibber said ibuprofen can mess up your kidneys as well as the your stomach and liver. The whole family of meds that ibuprofen is from can do this, so if you take them make sure you eat before taking them to protect your stomach. Some of the stronger meds in that family like diclofenic or naproxen, doctors normally also prescribe something to protect your stomach like omoprazole.
Unfortunately as time goes by you will find your body will build up tolerances to the medications you're on so you'll have to change them or take "holidays" from your meds so that you can go back to different meds you've built up tolerances against.

Any of you guys ibuprofen can not only mess up your kidneys but cause stomach ulcers when taken too much. I'm supposed to take more but I take Advil extra strength at night along with all my other meds including perocette and my doc has given me a med to protect my stomach from ibuprofen
