When the pain level gets too high

Nov 20, 2015 10:03 AM

Hi everyone,
I've had the worst, most painful 2 days. I didn't sleep at all at night and couldn't find anything that would help me sleep. My pain management dr. Is closing so I have only a prescription that will take me til the end of december. I have a Fentanyl patch and break thru oxycodone. But the pills didn't even touch this pain I had in my back. I could lay down because it hurt even more and I couldn't sleep because of the pain so was up all night for 2 nights. All I could do was to pace the floors for 2 days straight. The sciatica wouldn't allow me to sit. Pain is the absolute worst thing in the world. Now I have to look for a new pain management dr. Who will continue prescribing for me. Y psychiatrist order some seroquel so i did sleep last night. Still in pain but not like b4.
Any suggestions?

Only the usual ones Susieq have u tried heat patches. Warm baths or a tens machine on your back. Hope it's settled now

I'd like to suggest an Epsom salt bath, maybe with some oils - like Lavender. When I'm at my worst, taking a bath like this and resting seems to help a lot.

See if you can get one of your Drs to try you on Lyrica or Neurontin for the sciatica. Narcotics won't help nerve pain.

Susieq718, I'm sorry you hurt so badly. Recently I was having a sciatic flare down my left leg. I mentioned it at PT and my therapist had me lay on my right side. She then took my foot and slowly pulled my left leg back, as if I were doing a backwards kick exercise move. As soon as I felt it pulling in my front thigh she held the leg in that position for 2 minutes, released it and waited 30 seconds, and then repeated the move once more. I was really surprised that it helped.

I hadn't had sciatica again until last night. I was lying on my left side in bed and pushed backwards with my left leg until I felt the front thigh pull. I held it, tested, and repeated it, and again it helped. Maybe you could try this and see if it helps. Don't push back to the point of pain, only until you feel the front thigh muscles pull tighter. I hope it helps! 🙏🌼

Thank you for the suggestions. Flappy I'm going to try that now. I'm on Cymbalta right now and my doc doesn't want me to switch meds to Lyrica. I havent taken a bath in a long time. I'm going to try that. Thanks you all.

I'm on Cymbalta, gabapentin, lyrica, and muscle relaxers. Don't touch pain. I cope okay but the muscle cramps especially at night. Now my stomach and back are increasing in cramps, scared to eat and I'm diabetic. Do you guys up chuck too?

Susie have you tried Tiger balm? I've used it for fibro. Stinks likes anything, but it does work- for me. Worked better than any of the other topical, it's OTC and you can get it at CVS, vitamin shoppe, Walmart. (Vitamin shoppe has the best prices)

Have you all tried Biofreeze? It's amazing and it's my go to topical pain relief.

Gloriadean, I use Voltaren gel (rx) on my legs cramps too, besides the muscle relaxer. The voltaren gel actually works better than the muscle relaxers. Have you tried something like Biofreeze or an OTC ointment for pain? There are many brands available. Good luck!🙏🌼

I've used tiger balm and tons of other stuff but I'm definitely a biofreeze girl and no I don't work for them, but it would sure be nice to get discounts from them if it was possible, lol I use enough of it. I should take up stock in the biofreeze market. Lol lol
