When to go back to the doctor?!?

Apr 04, 2018 8:39 PM

So I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and told I may or may not have signs and the beginnings of a autoimmune disease like lupus but I’m having a very hard time trying to tell if the problems and pains I’m having are with my fibromyalgia or if it could be symptoms of a autoimmune disease since the symptoms seems to overlap and I’m just at a loss of what the best judgement call is

It's always better to be safer than sorry. I would suggest going back to the doctor so that they can do testing for autoimmune conditions. Even if it's just fibromyalgia, at least you'll know for sure. But if it is something autoimmune, at least you'll know early and can begin treatment.

I'm in exactly the same place. All my tests and scans thankfully came back normal then I went to see the rheumatologist, she originally said that I had fibromyalgia. Bizarrely that morning I experienced the butterfly rash across my face and the rheumatologist saw it. Then they checked my urine there was protein in it whereas last time it was clear. They've now sent that off for a ACR urine test because it could signify lupus. So I'm like head spinning too. On top of that I've now got to have repeat blood tests which hurt due to the fibromyalgia, mri scans on my knee and hip for osteoarthritis/osteoporosis and blood pressure monitoring because mine is high again. Sorry for the rant! I hope you get some answers soon, nothing is worse than being left in limbo. Always here if you need to talk. Take care love Hayley 🌈

My doctors had to "rule out" lupus and other autoimmune diseases before they gave me the fibromyalgia diagnosis...

Snap that's where I was, I'd been told everything else has been ruled out which left fibromyalgia. Then I went back last week and now some red flags (protein in urine and the butterfly rash) so I'm back under the band "under monitoring". I think fibromyalgia and lupus are so alike it can be confusing for us and clinicians.
