Opoid epidemic: I get that there are people who abuse their meds and things need to be stricter. But to say that Alternative therapy should be the only treatment and anyone on pain meds should be taken off because of the health risks is bull. Who is writing this? I can guarantee they're are not anyone with Chronic pain.
I was running a 5K every single day. I was productive at work and had friends. I laughed and had a great life. After being taken off my meds as a practice they were doing for all their patients at my pain clinic my pain is almost unbearable. I miss time at work, lost friends because I am unreliable, I use a cane in hopes I don't fall. Covered in bruises because I do. Stressed all the time and barely able to walk. I've done CBT, nerve blocks, accupunctire, dry needling, nerve meds. None have worked. How is THIS quality of life?
Only aporoved drs can prescribe suboxone, search for an addict specialist... I know you're not an addict, neither was I. But when they chose to take me off all my meds this was the only way to get help.
ScruffyCub look into Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). LDN uses a low dose of a drug that's normally used to combat opioid addictions. Doctors aren't sure why using a low dose of a drug meant to combat addictions actually reduces pain.
Over here in Canada .at least in my area. You and your Doctor sign a contract that you will not go to other Doctors for Meds. We don't have enough family Doctors here so if you go to a walk in clinic, you will not get opioids. Like you I would rather just be normal than take meds. I took at least a year to prove that I am not a druggie.
