X-rays and scans

Feb 16, 2015 4:44 PM

I had a flat panel xray of my thoracic and lumbar spine which came back looking good, some slight bulging discs but nothing big. Now I had a flex/extension xray done while I was trying to arch back and bend forward. Do any of you have insight into that type of imaging? Wondering if it will show anymore than the flat panel did? Then they are talking about possible bone scan. Wondering if that will give insight?

By bone scan do you mean a DEXA? The flex X-ray is to look at your spine from a different point of view and whether or not that pairing affects certain parts of the spine. It especially helps with looking at facet joints as well

The facet joint is where he thinks the problem is. All I know about the bone scan is that they inject radiation for it.

Oregonhomestead, I have facet spondylosis they saw on that type of xray. And the dexa scan shows osteopenia, likely due to 1) genetics (my mom had osteoporosis) & 2) steroid injection blocks + asthma steroids.

I'd out a bone scintigraphy, FIG - PET or a SPECT/CT?

So my flex/ext xray came back fine..... Now what?

I'm not sure, he said bone scan with injected radiation...?? I saw the list, thank you Reece. He said its around 40xs the radiation as an xray but less than a CT .. I'm sorry, I Got confused in replying to posts... I think this question was for me??😁

Okay, I'll look into it for you (provided I remember if not feel free remind me)

So far I can't seem to find (or think of) it, I'll let you know if i do but could you ask them what it is when you have it and post here to tell us

Feb 20, 2015 1:08 PM

Also when you ask what scan it is could you also ask what injection?

Feb 21, 2015 9:49 AM

Absolutely! Thank you for helping. I had an IME appt yesterday for workers comp so I didn't ask HIM because i was too busy having a heart attack!

Awh Oregon, just try to stay calm, relax as best you can and eat chocolate lol

Feb 22, 2015 10:25 AM

Chocolate is my go to stress buster...especially dark chocolate

Feb 22, 2015 4:28 PM

You have to be careful if you are on certain drugs though (mainly Ritalin etc.) As it can interact with the stimulant in chocolate (Theobromide) and can cause anything from mood swings to seizures

Feb 22, 2015 4:45 PM

Oh wow! That is terrible! Luckily I'm not on that but that's important info to share! That's why I love this forum!

Feb 23, 2015 3:35 AM

I'm not either luckily but my friend is on Ritalin and i noticed that she had a lot of mood swings when eating chocolate so i looked it up! :) (That's just one of my ADHD friends on Ritalin the rest are fine with chocolate)

Feb 23, 2015 7:47 AM

Thank God I'm not on anything that interacts with chocolate! 😁

I have a side effect from eating chocolate .... The waistband on my clothes shrink. I'm sure it must be a laundry problem ;)

Feb 23, 2015 11:42 AM

Same here Deena! I came to the same conclusion ;) :D

Those darn washing machines & detergents do it every time! And there's nothing I can do(within reason)... 😁
